The Parkening International Guitar Competition honors Christopher Parkening's lifetime commitment to fostering musical excellence in young artists.

The Competition is the most prestigious classical guitar competition in the world, with cash prizes in excess of US$65,000—the largest cash prize purse of any classical guitar competition. The Gold Medalist will receive the Stotsenberg Prize of US$30,000.

The Competition, first held at Pepperdine in 2006, takes place on the beautiful campus of Pepperdine University in Malibu, California, where Mr. Parkening is Distinguished Professor of Music. With generous grants from Roberta and Howard Ahmanson and Juanita and Manny Del Arroz, the Competition is held every three years.
