The Competition

Marko Topchii

Marko TopchiiMarko Topchii, 21, was born in Kyiv, Ukraine, to a family of musicians. At 4 he began studying the guitar, first with Volodymir Homenyuk and later with Boris Belskiy. He graduated from the Kotlyarevsky National University of Arts in Kharkiv, Ukraine, where he studied under Volodymir Dotsenko. Topchii has attended master classes with Marcin Dylla, Tania Chagnot, Carlo Marchione, and Judicaël Perroy, among others. He gave his first solo concert in 2009 at the Lysenko Concert Hall of the National Philharmonic of Ukraine. Topchii has given recitals in the Ukraine and abroad in Italy, Spain, Germany, France, India, Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania, and others. He has garnered prizes in many international competitions. In 2011 he won first prize at the Robert J. Vidal International Guitar Competition (France), first prize at the International Guitar Competition of Sernancelhe (Portugal), and he was a finalist at the Francisco Tárrega International Guitar Competition (Spain). In 2010 he won first prize at the Mottola Guitar Competition (Italy) and won the prize for best interpretation of a classical work at the Forum Guitarre Wien (Austria).
