Director Selects Jazz and Standards

*For the next several weeks, we will provide curated lists from Rebecca Carson, our Managing Director, featuring a selection of our favorite Center for the Arts artists.*

When I think about some of our Jazz and Standards highlights in the past few years, I think of the joy and the surprise that comes through live performance. We can't wait to be together enjoying live music again!

Herb Alpert and Lani Hall

Herb Alpert and Lani Hall are a delightful, charismatic couple that put on a fantastic performance. "There's something about a good melody and a lyric. You remember it," Herb Alpert tells us in live performance. They are timeless, which was indicated by the 80 year age range of the audience members at this performance!

Dave Brubeck

Sadly, I never had the opportunity to see Dave Brubeck perform live at Pepperdine. For many of our long time subscribers, his regular appearances in our intimate Smothers Theatre were truly remarkable. While we lost Dave Brubeck in 2012, his music lives on.

Wynton Marsalis

Wynton Marsalis is a stunning, remarkable performer. Check out the beautiful #Memorialforusall, in the New Orleans tradition.

Lizz Wright

The stunning musicianship of Lizz Wright is extraordinary. I can't wait to see what she does next!

Sammy Miller and the Congregation

Joyful jazz! This show is part performance art, part killer jazz, and all heart. This song is such a great message for the whole world.
