Alumni and Student Content

  • Making Waves Across the Globe feat. Pepperdine Alumni — We join Pepperdine alumni from 2007 to 2018 in this special segment about the arts. Julie, Fernando, Devony, Natalie, and Alexander tell stories of how music has taken them on exciting adventures and created long lasting memories. From traveling to foreign places, to breaking language barriers, this story time will provide students a firsthand account of international travel and ignite their passion for adventure through the lens of music.
    (Performance Grade Range: 2–6)

Here's a fun crossword puzzle to accompany the Making Waves presentation (the answer key is included on the final page of the document)!

FAQ

Once registered, do teachers receive a link with a pre-recorded performance or will it be a “live” session?

We are planning to provide a mix of materials each month in spring, and each month will have a different focus! Some examples of what you might see month to month are: pre-recorded performances, activities in visual art or music, downloadable activities for the class, and "live" interaction with an artist or staff/students when possible (for example, we are planning a live Q&A with Jazzy Ash in March!). We're hoping that giving teachers more control of when they use the pre-recorded content mixed with occasional live meetings will make it possible for more schools to participate (even if they can't make the live events).

Can more than one teacher register for the same performance?

YES! We actually encourage every classroom to register separately. Since ARTSReach is grant-funded, having it structured this way will help us get an accurate count on the number of classes and students. So feel free to share the email with all of your fellow teachers, but please have every teacher register for their own students.

Is there a limit to the amount of teachers that are allowed to register from the same school?

No limit per school! Anyone who might have interest in the materials is encouraged to register.

How can I share this video content with my class?

Videos on this page can be shared in three ways:

  1. Share the video with students from your device.
Play the video on your device and share your screen with your students via Zoom or whichever video conferencing platform your classroom uses.
  2. Send students a direct link to the video.
This link can be found by clicking on the small < icon in the top right corner of the video frame. Select Copy Link to get a link that you can share with your students. Students will need the password that was shared with you via email to play the video.
  3. Send students a link to the Black History Month Activities landing page.
Students will need the password that was shared with you via email to play the video. Please note that sharing this page with students will give them access to the entire slate of activities for the month.
I'm a parent. Can I offer these activities to my child directly?

YES! You are welcome to register for these activities for your child/family. We also encourage you to share the registration information with your child's teacher or school.

Why is the video content blurry or pixelated? Why is there no sound?

For the best viewing experience, select the HD icon in the bottom right corner of the video frame. Select 1080p to view the video in high definition.

The volume slider can be found in the bottom left corner of the video frame, adjacent to the Play button.

Why won’t the video content play after entering my password?

Depending on the device and web browser you are viewing the video in, you may need to click on the black video frame once or twice after entering the password in order for the video to begin playing.

How can I download the printable activities and study guide?

If you're having trouble downloading the printable activities or study guide, we recommend right-clicking the "download here" link and selecting "Download Linked File." The documents should appear in the Downloads folder on your device.
